The call to diaconia, i.e. active charity, can be found in many places in the Bible; diaconia has been a central characteristic of the Christian church from the very beginning. One group that is often mentioned as being under God's special care is orphans – in our time, this means children and young people who cannot live with their biological parents but grow up in homes and foster families.
In this seminar, we want to provide basic information about the situation of foster children and foster parents in the UK, consider together where Christians can get involved in this issue, and present theoretical and practical parent training that helps foster parents to master their task as well as possible.

There are so many misunderstandings surrounding this topic that some people hardly dare to approach it. Yet there is such power in serving others with the gifts and authority of the Holy Spirit – lives are transformed – the kingdom of God breaks through.
In this seminar, John will explain what this can look like in practice, while also clearing up some misunderstandings. Of course, there will also be room for practical application.

Why do we repeatedly invite God's Holy Spirit at CK – isn't He already there? And why do we sometimes hear phrases like, ‘More of You, Holy Spirit’? Is God always present, or does God's presence come close to us in special situations? Both are true. We find both in the Bible, and there are good theological reasons for both aspects of God's presence.
In this seminar, you can expect a generally understandable introduction to the theological basics of God's presence. We will look at biblical examples of God's general presence and God's special presence. We will learn about the Jewish theological concept of the Shekinah. And we will see what God's presence means for us Christians today and in our times of prayer.
