Seminars
Seminars
There is a wide range of topics, from outreach work with children and young people in the neighbourhood to leadership and worship. Sometimes you get really good answers at the seminars, sometimes really good questions or ideas. We are all on a journey and no one has reached their destination yet.
We invite you to listen, think along and join in the conversation at the seminars!
Please note that there are two seminar slots (14:30–15:45 and 16:15–17:30).
Being light in educational institutions
Slot: 2 Jana Nimmo
“Seek the welfare of the city” – but how does that work in educational institutions? How can we share the Good News without necessarily using words? In schools, daycare centres and other institutions, there is not always the freedom to speak openly about personal faith. At the same time, it is often the children in our society who suffer the most.
In this seminar, we will talk about how we can be a light of God's love in different contexts. We will also hear about various projects, initiatives and ministries that are already doing just that.

Churchplanting 1x1
Slot: 2 Ben Woodfield, Philip Müller
Jesus wants to come to your neighbourhood! His kingdom is spreading, and who does he need for this? His bride, his body, his church, you!
In this seminar, Ben and Philip will talk about what they have learned on their journey of accompanying or leading church plants. It will be a time filled with Q&As and best practices, especially for those who have church planting on their hearts.

Culturally sensitive (how can I engage with new cultures?)
Slot: 2 Shiyani Refuge
Jesus calls us out into the world – but cultures are not only beautiful, they are also complex. Even in our own neighbourhoods, we encounter people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. How can we avoid 1,000 faux pas when building relationships?
What does it mean to deal with cultures of shame and honour? What is expected in one culture may be perceived as an insult in another. And where do cultural values conflict with the culture of the Kingdom of God?
In order to truly engage with other cultures, we must first learn to better understand our own. This can feel like a daunting task, but there are helpful methods for approaching it step by step.
In this seminar, Shiyani will draw on her wealth of experience to help you reach people in a culturally sensitive way – to the ends of the earth.

Leading charismatic worship
Slot: 1 Benny Goodson
Worship, the Holy Spirit and the kingdom of God.
What do we sing and pray for? How can we worship in harmony with the Holy Spirit? Where does worship fit into the kingdom of God? How do we worship with the gifts of the Spirit?
In this seminar we will look at exactly these questions and Benny will pass on what he has learnt in recent years as a leader of worship and prayer at Central.

Leading in the Kingdom of God
Slot: 1 Dr. Martin Egger
Jesus was the most effective leader this world has ever seen. Within just three years, he turned everything upside down. His movement has never stopped since then: it reaches young and old, rich and poor, educated and uneducated. It resonates in every culture on this globe.
Yet his leadership style differs significantly from what the world around us is accustomed to. He himself calls us to follow him in matters of leadership, saying, ‘I have given you an example.’
But what are the leadership principles of the Kingdom of God? In this seminar, Martin will share his learnings from business and Central – and we will discover how we can follow Jesus' example in matters of leadership.

Living in God's presence
Slot: 1 Nicola Neal
‘Being close to God is my happiness,’ declares the psalmist. Living in God's presence is the secret to a fulfilled life and effective ministry. But how can we achieve this? With all the stress and obligations of everyday life, it seems almost impossible. But not necessarily! We can learn to ‘practise’ God's presence in the midst of a noisy and busy everyday life. In this seminar, Nicola will show us how we can cultivate a lifestyle of seeking and finding.
Phenomena of the Holy Spirit
Slot: 2 Dr. Guido Baltes
Encounters with God can sometimes take on strange forms: People laugh, cry, start to tremble or fall to the ground... Is this hysteria? Or perhaps the power of the Holy Spirit? Is this just about feelings or is it Jesus' promise: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you”? Do we find these things in the Bible and church history or is this a new trend for bored Christians? In this seminar, we will examine these phenomena theologically and historically and put them to the test.
Pray victoriously
Slot: 2 Sr. Liliane, Sr. Laetitia
“Teach us to pray...” – with this request, the disciples come to their Master. Yes, prayer can be learned! And it is probably one of the most important lessons in the life of a follower of Jesus. Prayer is the key to every movement of God in history.
But how can we intercede in prayer for our neighbourhoods and our country?
How can we recognise what is ‘at stake’ and pray victoriously for the relevant concerns?
In this seminar, we will learn from the rich experiences and insights of the Marienschwestern in Germany.

Prophecy 1x1
Slot: 1 Julian Adams
‘Everyone can speak prophetically’ – but how? Is the gift of prophecy reserved for only a select few? Why then does Paul say that everyone can speak prophetically? How can we hear God's voice? And how should we pass on what we hear?
In this seminar, we will explore the basics of prophetic speech.

Room to thrive: How communities can support foster families
Slot: 2 Rike Hüttmann, Judith Bürzle, Prof. Dr. Dr. Christian Bachmann
The call to diaconia, i.e. active charity, can be found in many places in the Bible; diaconia has been a central characteristic of the Christian church from the very beginning. One group that is often mentioned as being under God's special care is orphans – in our time, this means children and young people who cannot live with their biological parents but grow up in homes and foster families.
In this seminar, we want to provide basic information about the situation of foster children and foster parents in the UK, consider together where Christians can get involved in this issue, and present theoretical and practical parent training that helps foster parents to master their task as well as possible.

Surprise bag – Discover the gifts of the spirit
Slot: 1 John Nimmo
“Now concerning spiritual gifts, I do not want you to be ignorant” – with these words, Paul introduces his teaching on spiritual gifts. But what exactly are spiritual gifts?
There are so many misunderstandings surrounding this topic that some people hardly dare to approach it. Yet there is such power in serving others with the gifts and authority of the Holy Spirit – lives are transformed – the kingdom of God breaks through.
In this seminar, John will explain what this can look like in practice, while also clearing up some misunderstandings. Of course, there will also be room for practical application.

Theology on the presence of God
Slot: 1 Dr. Andreas Jansson
Why do we repeatedly invite God's Holy Spirit at CK – isn't He already there? And why do we sometimes hear phrases like, ‘More of You, Holy Spirit’? Is God always present, or does God's presence come close to us in special situations? Both are true. We find both in the Bible, and there are good theological reasons for both aspects of God's presence.
In this seminar, you can expect a generally understandable introduction to the theological basics of God's presence. We will look at biblical examples of God's general presence and God's special presence. We will learn about the Jewish theological concept of the Shekinah. And we will see what God's presence means for us Christians today and in our times of prayer.

Working with addicts
Slot: 1 Martin und Gila Rohsmann
How do we meet people who are trapped in addictions and what really helps them? It is often difficult to help them, but this is precisely where the gospel of the kingdom of God unfolds its power.
Martin and Gila serve people in addiction every day at the Kotti in Berlin with the love of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. In this seminar you will learn what divine love, power and wisdom look like in such situations - and how the gospel brings healing and freedom.
Gila and Martin Rohsmann run the Café Sehnsucht at Kottbusser Tor in Berlin.
